FAQ - Pona Pack

For which products I can use the MAP and sealing machines?

The MAP and coating machines can be used for the packaging of any type of food. They can also be used for packaging of health products.

Is it possible to use printed film in such type of machines?

Printed film can be used with photocell equipment in any semi-automatic and full-automatic models.

I want to use more than tray sizes. Do I have to purchase a different machine for each trays?

Mold set can be changed in all of our machines. You can purchase and use more than one mold set for a single machine. There is no need to buy another machine.

Why a warning text appears on the machine display?

All of our MAP machines are designed to direct the operator with a warning message for air, gas, safety caps and mold failure. You can solve the problem by performing the checks based on the warning message.

When should I have the maintenance done for the vacuum pump?

It is recommended to have maintenance done in monthly, semi-annual and annual basis for your vacuum pump. Monthly maintenance is a superficial check such as checking the oil level but heavy maintenance for at least once a year and normally for every six months is recommended for intensely operating facilities. This also applies for the pump and the machine.

How can I change mold in the machine?

You can see how to change the mold from the next video link. (TKM SERIES-VTK SERIES-ATS SERIES-SL SERIES)

How the film is attached to the machine?

You can see how to change the mold from the next video link. (TKM SERIES-VTK SERIES-ATS SERIES-SL SERIES)

How can I analyze the products packaged in the machine?

You must have a gas analyzing device to analyze the products. You can purchase this service from our company.

What could be the reason of not obtaining the desired shelf life?

If the targeted shelf life is not obtained in in MAP package, first of all the machine must be ensured for proper functioning but this may not be the only reason. The EVOH (gas barrier) feature, the compliance of the used plates with the MAP package must be checked. If problems continue as a result of these validations, the cause of the problem is the accuracy of the machine and gas mixture or cold air chain and hygiene.

What is the reason of not opening the closed trays easily?

Films with various characteristics are used in tray sealing packaging. One of them is the way of gluing the film. The films are produced in two types: Peelable and Non-peelable films. Check the specifications of the film you use.

What is the reason that the film attaches on the mold but not the tray?

The surface attaching to the plate during the film production is mainly the surface which remains inside in the coil. Ensure that you attached the film correctly.

What can be the reason that the machine does not start even power connection is available?

Our machines are equipped with a phase control relay to ensure the accuracy of the rotation direction of the vacuum pump. Find out the correct order by changing the phase terminals (R, S, T).

What is the reason that the trays are broken during packaging or handling?

The reason of plates to break is related to the production process of the tray. The containers in companies packaging frozen products must be produced to be convenient at -18⁰C.

There is a collapse in the trays after a short time when the fresh red meat is packaged. Why does it happen?

This situation may occur when the high amount of carbon dioxide is used. It especially occurs as a result of decrease of the volume which is close to the atmosphere inside the plate when the carbon dioxide gas used in the packaging of the products such as minced meat and meat cubes penetrates in the product. The solution is to send gas above the atmospheric pressure during packaging (positive pressure) and to pack the tray as blown, and the appearance will turn to normal by collapsing to the extent of collapsing carbon dioxide after some time.

How can I learn the gas mixture which is suitable for my product in MAP packaging?

The gas mixtures used in MAP packages varies based on the product type. You can get information about this subject from our company or gas distributors.

Can I make only vacuum or only closing with MAP (vacuum-gas) machine?

There are three operating modes in all our MAP machines and it is possible to select from the operator panel easily. MAP/Only vacuum/Only closing options are available.

How can I ensure the gas filled inside the plate by the machine during packaging?

The only way to ensure that the machine sends the same amount of gas at each time is the method used in the machine for vacuum and gas. The time and vacuum and gas control method which is applied in many models is not a healthy method because the pressure change based on the gas type and the amount of gas to be sent by the machine at the same time will not be the same. Therefore, the VACUUM and GAS control in the MAP packaging machines must be done by a sensor. This sensor must be chosen among the ones with specific features.

Which properties should the plates that I will use in the tray sealer machine have?

There are certain types of plates used in the tray sealer machines. For example; PET, CPET, PP, PET PE, PS and etc. PP and CPET must be preferred in hot product packaging. PP is commonly preferred since the cost of the CPET material is high. PET is preferred for its strong appearance. The one which is not recommended is PS. Although it is very attractive due to its low cost, it makes the use of this material difficult in tray sealer packaging since it is fragile and non-heat resistant.

Which type of film should I use in the machine?

Several types of films are used in Tray sealer packaging method. The first question to ask when selecting the film is to use a PEELABLE film or a NONPEELABLE film. The answer to that question is to use peelable film in daily food packaging. Non-peelable film can be preferred for other groups. The second subject is that the film should have EVOH (barrier) feature if you are doing a MAP (VACUUM-GAS) packing. If evaporation occurs on the plate surface after packaging, and if it is not desired, the film must also have an ANTI-FOG feature. This EVOH feature is not required in non-MAP packaging but ANTI-FOG feature is favorable.

What should the film thickness be?

The thickness of the films used in Tray sealer machines may vary. The minimum and maximum thicknesses that can be used for the film in the machine must be learned from the machine manufacturer. Special LID films (25-30 microns) can also be used in PONAPACK machines. In addition, the preferred film thicknesses are 40 micros of PET, 50 microns of PET and 50-60-75-90 microns CPET.

Can the liquid containing foods be packed in MAP machines?

Yes, but the machine must be equipped with liquid filter.

What are the other materials required when purchasing the tray sealer machine?

Machine, film and tray must be supplied for desktop manual machines. Machine, compressor, film and plate must be supplied for semi-automatic machines doing closing only. Machine, compressor, gas tube and regulator, plate and film must be supplied for semi-automatic and full-automatic MAP machines.
